Download Free Smileys

Hiya, I want to get more smileys than the default collection you get when sending emails. I know there are sites like incredimail etc but I dont understand how to put them in an email. I get the image code and paste it into the email but it doesnt change to the image, its just letters and numbers. Anyone know a good website to get free smileys.
